The Volkswagen Beetle – officially the Volkswagen Type 1, informally in German the Käfer, was originally designed as a “people’s car”. A cheap, simple car to be mass-produced for Germany’s new road network (Reichsautobahn). With production starting in 1938 and ending in 2003 and more than 21 million Beetles produced, the car became one of the most produced cars in history.
Now mostly owned by enthusiasts who keep these cars alive, today the Beetle has a huge fanbase and is a cult classic.
